Mobile Advertising Enables Free GPS Navigation Software for Java Enabled Phones
amAze has teamed up with DigitalGlobe and LocatioNet Systems Ltd. to bring the first free GPS navigation system for Java enabled mobile phones with a bluetooth GPS device. This collaboration means that for the first time, worldwide voice-guided GPS navigation is enabled over high resolution satellite imagery and aerial photos with regular mass-market phones that has either internal or external GPS receiver.
MobileTechNews reports that the service is free for users and that all revenue will be generated from mobile advertising.
This kind of offering is radically opposed to the original school of thought of trying to make money from each and every possible angle, by creating a service that is in essence paid for by the people merely using it. My mind struggles to grasp the enormity of this, but I do believe this will set a precedent and that many companies will follow, and the best part of this is that we ultimately benefit more and more in the end…
Unfortunately they only provide this service for North America and 15 European countries, but I would assume that it will expand in due time to include additional countries and continents, but anybody traveling to these destinations with the required hardware has a free ticket to navigational bliss that should enhance your traveling experience greatly.
